Emergency Summit to Address Federal Cuts Impacting Fresno’s Community-Based Organizations
PRESS RELEASE DATE: March 28, 2025
FRESNO, CALIF. – In response to significant federal funding cuts impacting Fresno County, community leaders and nonprofit partners will gather for an emergency summit to address how these reductions are affecting vulnerable populations, and what can be done to mitigate the damage.
Two local organizations: Exceptional Parents Unlimited and West Fresno Family Resource Center, have already had their contracts terminated, effective April 25. These organizations provide critical services including early intervention for children with developmental delays, parenting education, mobile health services, and culturally grounded support for families in underserved areas.
The loss of their funding means fewer resources for families already facing difficult circumstances, children with special needs losing key support, seniors and disabled residents at risk of losing access to care, and low-income communities left without vital outreach.
An additional seven organizations are facing potential cuts and have received preliminary notices. These include:
Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño
Cultiva La Salud
FCHIP Fresno HOPE Hub
Reading & Beyond
UCSF (Metropolitan Mobile Health)
Nisei Farmers League (Insure America Project)
Valley Center for the Blind
The summit will begin with a closed roundtable discussion among nonprofit leaders, county officials, and partners to assess the situation, share the human impact, and begin outlining possible solutions.
Media are invited to join immediately following the private roundtable, where Supervisor Chavez and community leaders will provide statements and be available for interviews.
